This a new Construction Quilt Pattern is made with 6 individual vehicles, Backhoe, Dump Truck, Crane, Mixer, Excavator, and Dozer, each 24x28 inches with a simple sashing to make a twin size quilt 64x84 inches. The perfect quilt for any little boy who like mine can name all the different kinds of vehicles when we pass a building site. These are a few of his favorites.
If you are looking for something a little different I have a dump truck and backhoe as a single pattern in my traditional crib and lap sizes.
This pattern is for advanced beginners. You should have some sewing experience. If you can use a rotary cutter, and sew a straight 1/4 inch seam you can put this quilt together.
The process looks something like this:
Step 1: The pattern uses charts to explain how many strips to cut in each color for all 6 vehicles. I suggest using a rotary cutter and mat.
Step 2: A set of charts for each vehicle, giving piece lengths that will be alphabetically labeled and set aside. These pieces will be cross cut from the strips from step 1.
Step 3: Sew the vehicle together row by row following a large color picture that show each piece with its letter designation.
The shaping of the trucks is done with 2 to 3 sizes of half square triangles. They are cut as squares in the step 2, then marked with a sew line corner to corner to be placed on top of a larger piece or square of the same size. Then sewn, trimmed, and flipped.
